Different bibs for different stages- here are a few of my favorites.
The classic cloth bib. The best for little tiny ones just starting "solids". 
When baby gets a little bigger and solids really do become a little more solid. These leather... yes, leather Mally Bibs are wonderful. They are wipe-able which means fewer bibs in the wash and I like that!
